Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon is about to start second 787 production line to keep Boeing's 787 Dreamliner as an anchor for the region's economy.

In the midst of headlines about the aerospace giant laying off 10,000 workers, including 4,500 around Puget Sound, Reardon was looking at the huge volume of orders for the new airliner and anticipating a second production line—he intends to keep here.

To sustain an attractive economic environment for Boeing and other employers, Reardon said he and the Snohomish County Council are working on a regional approach with government and business leaders outside their home turf.

Concentric circles of political and business decisions to keep the region competitive directly relate to concentric circles of economic growth. The county executive sees purposeful efforts to keep a second production line for 787s as part of landing work on the next generation of 737s.
